It's a local bar with good food and an aesthetic that makes you feel welcome. The bartenders here are fantastic. They know how to make sure you have a good time. It was perfect for my wife and I; both of us are in our early thirties, to get away from the insanity of other bars in the area. I actually felt appreciated rather than a burden.

Sooooo, where do I begin? I took everyone's recommendation and got the crab balls. Omigawd!! They really are 95% crab! The server was amazing and took excellent care of us! Most of us shared appetizers and there were definitely no complaints! Whatever kind of tots you order, you will not be disappointed! My friend was raving about the pulled pork and the pork quesadilla had an awesome bite to it. The best part, I feel, is their cocktail sauce! It's not the ketchupy stuff you buy at the store! Much of it was horseradish which gives it that kick! I even started dunking my crab tots in it! I hope we come back before the weekend is out!

Great selection of craft brews on tap. Fish tacos are very tasty, the chipotle mayo is very good. The BBQ is sweet but tasty. Good soups. Who knew that you could make a crab and scrapple soup? TVs for sports viewing. Casual vibe.

I was not expecting to be wowed by their breakfast like I was. I went here twice with a friend and we both loved our food, and we are huge breakfast people. The first time I visited was over a year ago and I ordered The Drunken Frenchman. It was an excellent spin on the average French toast and definitely left a good impression. On my more recent visit this past week, I still wanted some French toast, but I also wanted to try something different. So I opted for the Monte Cristo, which was a typical breakfast sandwich but with the French toast instead of traditional bread. It was absolutely delicious! My friend enjoys a more traditional breakfast of eggs, toast and bacon. He said they too were better than expected! The cheesy tots and coffee on the side added to create a really yummy breakfast to make the perfect beginning to any day.

The good, the bad, and the average: The good. Friendly staff. Fun seaside decorations. The bad. Overly crowded. Long wait. Bland overcooked scrapple. "3 egg" omelettes were clearly made from a carton and tasted very processed. A little pricey for what you get. The average. Sausage, cheese taters, and toast were all average, which means pretty good. It wasn't terrible, but with with so many other great spots nearby, I wouldn't go out of your way for this bland, unexciting fair.

Our unit was feet away from here so we ended up coming here twice for dinner, and it was my favorite place to eat out of everywhere we went! The bartenders took amazing care of us, which was a feat because we were a party of 10 in such a small bar. The first night, they introduced me to Crushes and I'm now unable to ever drink one again...but the food was so good! If you're not expecting beachy dive bar food, then probably don't come here...but it's exactly what we wanted and it was glorious! The crab tots are great, could use a little extra seasoning but we loved them. CRAB BALLS are where it's at, and the crab toast was amazing and I'm mad I didn't order it for myself! Fish tacos are good, minus the tomato chunks...but I got the special Mahi Po Boy and it was so good! Thanks for taking such great care of us!

Ok, I'm a pretty stringent helper but this one earned the five stars ten fold over. I strolled In after a day on the water with my main lady Irene and my homies from the block, to holler at my clash of clans homeboy Chops and he directed me to the utmost delicious hog wings. Holy snarfalicous delicious wing-ding boom sauce amazery, this meal have angels wings. Boom.

Don't waste your time. Food was mediocre as was the service. Staff was completely clueless and that's who runs the place. We arrived at 7p and were told 45 min. An hour and a half later we were seated. The appetizer and food, for half our party, came out 45 min after being seated! The other three had to wait an additional 20 minutes. The waitress was no where to be found. And the kitchen staff were delivering the food and said to us repeatedly--the rest of your food is coming right out. Yeah, so by the time we all finally received our food it had been 2 hours and 20 minutes after we arrived and almost and hour after we were seated. Oh-- Did I mention this was happening to ALL the tables that had families but not to others. I noticed when were we seated the table next us one of the patrons received their SALAD--how long does it take to make a fricken salad?!- after everyone at their table had finished eating theirs. A bad sign which was preparing us for our UTTERLY WASTEFUL dining experience!!! A complete waste of money for food I could've made at home which ruined an evening of our family vacation!!!

Horribly slow service. Waitress with an attitude. My friend had a dirty quarter in her Bloody Mary. Food was average. No thank you.

Has a casual, chill vibe, generous portions, and kind staff. My order was incorrect and they were very accommodating, fixing it right away with no issue. Definitely a great choice for standard pub fare.

I wish it was possible to give this place zero stars/this restaurant is the reason I decided to become a Yelper. I was in town for New Years when my girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to get out for a New Years Eve brunch. I called Hammerheads at 11:20am only to have a very disgruntled man answer the phone, tell me that they only had brunch for 20 more minutes, and then immediately hang up (Did your brunch really end at 11:40? That seems pretty, pretty odd). Oh and I think it is worth mentioning that after brunch was over the restaurant was not closing, it was simply moving on to "lunch." What an inconvenience! Being optimistic, we decided to try it and hoped not to run into "disgruntled man." We were sitting at the bar by no later than 11:30 when "disgruntled man" asked us what we wanted. No "hey, hello, hi, how are you, nothing...." We asked for brunch menus which were actually thrown at us accompanied by "disgruntled man" grumbling something seemingly explicit under his breath. My girlfriend and I are were completely shocked since we had not been anything but nice and just wanted to spend money/tip 20 percent at this man's establishment on a brunch that we figured was probably going to be mediocre at best. We immediately left and will never return because of "disgruntled man in his 40s with a beard" who was the rudest person I have ever come across in the service industry. Instead, do what we did and walk across the street to Starboard and having a pleasant brunch with lovely, kind, respectable service.

Stopped in for the bacon wrapped corn dog during the bacon festival. It was delicious, will be back to try the menu!

Awesome breakfast, awesome bloody's! We were here in the off season Steve was great behind the bar!

Would have been 4 stars but service was slow. Self service coffee, hmm OK. Looked to be 2 post college football guys trying to run a breakfast service in a bar environment. Tables were set too close together making it difficult for them or us to get thru. And there was room to move tables. Bad form. Maybe wrong type of staff trying to run breakfast. Food was good.

Not your typical bar food. Excellently prepared crab, tuna, and chicken. The fried green tomato appetizer with goat cheese and pesto sauce is wonderful.

My original review was taken down for some unknown reason. I had a terrible experience here with the rudest service I have ever come across. I will never be back.

we waited even though 3 or 4 tables were open the bartenders are great and the orange crushes are dangerous! the pulled porked should be called cubed pork... don,t waste your money everything else was good except the mosquitoes bring repellant...

Love Hammerheads! Their menu has gotten much better over the years. We make a point to eat here at least once each time we visit - especially in the off season. Brunch is awesome and the bartenders and servers are so nice. We love coming in October for football and beer and conversation. Love that it's not crowded 24/7 like some of the other places.

Great food. I ordered the crabby BLT and it was fantastic. My husband ordered a wrap and wasn't impressed because it was very small and he left hungry but the second time we went he ordered a cheesesteak, and he loved it.

  • Zach J.

This is a darn good bar to hang out in. The tots are as advertised and super yummy whilst enjoying drinks. The pork tots had lots of chunky bacon and pulled bbq pork... pretty sure everything a person needs to be happy. The orange crush was first tasted here and my girl couldn't have been happier. The beer selection is limited, but a solid lineup on tap. This is not the largest bar on the Dewey strip, but certainly can hold a fun crowd.

Unassuming dive bar with the best French toast ever made. It's as if Jesus himself descended from heaven and handed you breakfast foods made from the tears of angels.

Rude staff, literally the worst I've experienced in Dewey. Drinks are terrible. Avoid this place at all costs.

  • Mike C.

The bartenders are great and friendly during the off season. I haven't been there for the summer since the area becomes a hot mess but I assume they are just as good. They recently did some renovations inside and it looks nicer. I was a little disappointed to see they changed their happy hour specials up and removed the grapefruit and orange crushes from the $5 special and also got rid of the steamed clams I love. Despite that, this is still a great place to go for a very welcoming atmosphere.

The good is really good! Crab balls are 95%crab! Blackened ahi we had 2 orders!Fried green tomatoes....yum! Large drinks A+! We are from San Diego and this is a wonderful beach bar!

Good stop for a drink in the evening. Prices were great - $4.50 for craft taps, of which they had a nice handful of variety, lots of solid IPAs and some other favorites. The music was about insanely loud and the clientele sort of weird but all in all an enjoyable place to have a nice pint. The bartender may or may not have said something kinda rude to me, could not tell if I was hearing properly as it was very loud but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt I guess and say that he was friendly.

  • Dave F.

Surprisingly good pub food, to say the least. The Hammerhead style wings are out of this world... great combination of BBQ and buffalo. We also ordered some of the buffalo tots as well as the bacon and cheese tots, both really excellent. For my main, I went with the Bendler wrap... excellent mix of steak, bacon, fried onions, chipotle mayo and cheese. And oh yeah... $2 domestic bottles. This place is not just typical drunk food; it steps the game up a bit.

My husband and I shared 3 appetizers for dinner - perfect amount of food and tasted great. Good beer specials at happy hour and our bar tender was friendly and very attentive. We will be going back in the future.

I was in Dewey. And I was hungry. Someone suggested Hammerheads. Really? It looks like a divey beach bar that would serve crappy fries. WRONG. Should I say this? I'm not sure I can say this. Um. Well. Their chicken Philly cheesesteak is perhaps the best one I've ever had...including ones I've had in Philly. Whoa. What?! Yea. Huge portion size and good food, worth a try for lunch when you're hanging out at the beach!

I have been here several times for breakfast and dinner. A great casual hangout for both! The breakfast is delicious, I usually get french toast and my husband gets a breakfast sandwich and both with there signature tater tots!! For dinner, we have had an amazing cheesesteak, great burgers and their random dinner specials (wraps, sandwiches etc). I have yet to go wrong with a meal choice here and would def recommend.

  • Andy L.

The evening meal started with Happy Hour prices until 8pm. We chose and were rewarded with a generous portion of buffalo shrimp. Hammerheads stood out on the Dewey portion of Route 1 for their Ahi tuna salad. Another good sized portion with great flavor. Unfortunately the Mahi tacos were a big disappointment. Two adjectives that shouldn't be associated with most dishes: bland and dry.

We came here for breakfast and I enjoyed our experience. We started off as a pair and it quickly morphed into 10. Our server took it in stride and she did a great job. Everyone seemed happy with their food and if you are feeling up to it, you can even get a beer, cider or whatever else tickles your fancy to go along with your omelet. I got the Italian Stallion with a side of fresh fruit. Considering it would be my only meal for most of the day, it did the trick and kept me full until our late dinner.

Well we (a group of 4 people) went memorial day weekend and of course the wait was a bit long but that was to be expected, however the service was average the price was a bit higher than most places. The food was just okay. We ordered wings and wanted them crispy and a half hour or so later they got to us and they were undercooked. Overall the experience was fine the waitress we had was fantastic. Our waitress was fun to talk with and really try to make going to hammerheads a great experience, it might have been her first day but you couldn't tell It was. I am giving 3 stars because of food was just okay as nd mist of the staff was just ok.

  • Mike B.

Why one star? Well, that is the minimum required. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. While I am frequently in Dewey, this is the first (and the last) occasion that I have been to Hammerheads. We sat down, and weren't approached until 10 minutes later. The restaurant was not full, the staff is just lazy. When the apparent stoned waiter finally came over, we had to repeat our drink order several times before he was comfortable enough in his bong resin-clouded stupor to memorize a water and a diet coke. There was no coffee available, even though he directed me to their 'coffee bar.' After waiting 15 minutes for our two kid-sized drinks, which proved to be a daunting task for him, we mistakenly stuck around to order food, against our better judgement. The food came out what seemed like half a day later, cold (omelette and cheese tots) and soggy (monte cristo sandwich). Halfway through my omelette, I bit into a piece of plastic. From there I asked for the check. There was no sense of pride or initiative on their end, such as there is no sense of remorse on mine. I will not be visiting Hammerheads again. Recommend Starboard or Jimmy's...both are miles ahead of this place.

Good food and laid back. Customer service was horrible, but they were really busy, so I don't fault them too much for being unhelful/short with everyone. However, we got there at 1130, and breakfast runs until noon, and we were told they weren't serving breakfast anymore. We asked again when we were finally seated, and they said because of the holiday they had to end breakfast early because of running out or something. Okay, so I was a little disappointed but went with it. But then a table of 8 people seated 10 minutes after us was offered breakfast. They had no problem finding the breakfast foods to fill that table. For that reason, plus the hoard of dead flies and other random bugs I saw in the corner behind us, I left unpleased. I'd go back when it isn't as busy, or maybe for a late late lunch.

Had the crabcakes, which were on special mid-week. Bar tender took care of us, he was great. There were big and nicely cooked. The meal came on a wonderful roll, had chips and slaw. Nothing too fancy but a good value for $6. Ordered an ice-tea. Awful! Iced tea from the bar dispenser tasted metallic. I know they probably don't server tons of iced-tea, but if I'd known it was so bad I'd have had a Diet Coke instead. In the future will always inquire as to whether the tea is brewed.

We were in Dewey, it was off season, we were hungry and it was the first place we saw open at 8pm. It looks like a dive bar, so we were a little scared of what the food would be like. We sat at the bar, ordered a couple of beers from a nice selection and asked the bartender what was good. He recommended two specials: Caribbean fish tacos and Asian tuna bites. Both were excellent. The presentation was something off of Food Network and both dishes tasted fresh and home made. The tuna was like sushi quality and the fish in the tacos was great. What a pleasant surprise. We'll go back for breakfast.

I went to Hammerheads for brunch over Memorial day weekend. The wings and bloody marys were so great, that we ended up going back the next day. The waitresses were awesome and did their best to manage the holiday crowds. Why my poor rating? Because the cook was so unbelievably disrespectful and unprofessional to the rest of the staff. We sat next to the kitchen and could hear him cursing, screaming, and throwing things the entire meal. Not only did it ruin our experience but the waitresses were afraid to ask him for additions or changes to the menu. I cannot believe the manager allows someone like this to work here. It's not everyone else's fault that he hates his job. Get a new cook Hammerheads!!!

My family and I stopped in this local gem the day we were leaving. We usually eat breakfast at Starboard when staying in dewey beach but since breakfast there the day before was a little off we decided to try Hammerheads. Its a fun looking bar/restaurant. Very interesting signs and décor up. I wanted the Drunken Frenchman but I ordered a sandwich made of french toast and eggs, the kids shared a deluxe plate with everything, my wife got an omelet. It was all great and super filling and we took the leftovers for the trip back. We all had cheesy tots which for some reason I thought would be small potato rounds with some cheese inside. But they were tater tots covered in cheese, which makes sense I guess. Anyway the food was great!

  • Alonza S.

We came here on our last day at the beach and it was the perfect place to chill and eat. Our waiter was really chill and even let us order lunch food though it was clearly breakfast time. They had huge portions and we all had food to take home. We had the Pesto Chicken with a side of Mac & Cheese, Philly Cheese Steak (with Cheese Whiz :( ), and the Mahi Salad (sp?). All were good and weren't too pricey. My only objection that I had was that the bathroom is a breeding pool for flies. There aren't flies in the actual restaurant but all the flies are in the bathroom that doesn't even look dirty. Overall, I really liked the vibe there and would go back.

I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, which was phenomenal! They hook you up with a decent pour if hard liquor is your thing, and they seemed to have an alright beer selection. Definitely check out their team trivia night on Thursdays. It's well organized and lots of fun.

I can't provide much comment on Hammerhead's service or food quality, but I can say that the owners are extremely unprofessional and have very bad business practices. They just cancelled our rehearsal dinner for 50 people 44 days before the event, basically b/c they don't want to host it. The owners would not return our phone calls, emails or texts to tell us this--we had to track them down. I won't bore everyone with the details but I'll just say--there are many good bars and restaurants in Dewey (Starboard, Que Pasa, North Beach, Mama Maria's), I recommend going somewhere else where they actually value your business.
